The Veteran's Day Ceremony will begin at 10:15 am, this Friday, November 11, 2011, at Lafayette Veteran's Park located on Feu Follet Road.

Did You Know: Before it was call Veteran's Day it was called Armistice Day!

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 an armistice (A temporary cessation of fighting by mutual consent; a truce) between Germany and the Allied nations was put into place. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time. In 1919, President Wilson proclaimed this day should be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory". There were plans for parades, public meetings and a brief suspension of business activities at 11am, this continues today. In 1954 it was changed to Veteran's Day and given the added significance of honoring veterans.  Without our brave we would not have our freedom today. 

Veterans Day Prayer

Comfort, O Lord, we pray thee, all who are mourning the loss of those
who laid down their lives in war. Be with them in their sorrow, support
them in their loneliness. Give them faith to look beyond the troubles of
this present time, and to know that neither life nor death can separate us
from thy love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen.
