On Wednesday September 14th at 6:00pm Terry Huval and Andrew Duhon of LUS will show you a short video and answer questions regarding the controversial smart meters. The smart meters, both electric and water, are scheduled to be placed on city of Lafayette homes and business establishments. This process is slated to begin as early as October 2011.
The total cost of this project is $32 million with $11.630,000 million (for the electric) coming from a federal grant that was approved in May of 2010. The city of Lafayette is required to match the $11.6 mil and the smart meters for the water would be at a cost of $9 mil. The $20.4 million is stated to come from the "general fund" which would be based on projected revenues.
These smart grids have been put into place or they are in the process in several cities/states across the United States. This has been made possible through Department of Energy (DOE) grants, which push "Sustainable Development/ Smart Growth" this is all part of a bigger picture called "Agenda 21".
Please take a moment to review the links above and view this 30 min. Smart Meter video. Here are a couple of websites regarding Smart Meter Concerns, Health issues. We could fill this page with links that are concerning but this is a start to hopefully motivate you to learn more on sustainable development, smart growth and Agenda 21.
If you are attending the meeting on the 14th please put any questions you have neatly down on paper and there will be a box at the entry to place them in. We will present as many questions as time allows.
Please pass this on to those that are within the city limits of Lafayette or on a Lafayette City water system. These are the people that are within this smart growth plan.
Mark your calendars : Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 @ 6:00 - South Regional Library.
