Your best bet is to go to a Gun Store.... Not Academy or WalMart either...a real gun store where you can talk to experts. My first time I went to a gun show. There are experts there and you can try the grip and slides of many different guns. Do you plan on conceal carry or open carry? Either way go online and google safety courses. You can go to the sheriff range and try your gun. They make you take a 20 minute safety course before shooting. Look up NRA Gun Safety and they have guys that charge for classes. These guys are very good but you have to know your gun and know what you want. Take a look at the Sportsman channel (Direct TV IS 605) on Monday nights they show self-defense shows. Acadiana Patriots doesn't do gun safety. Even if you are not planning to Conceal carry the all day class is very very good. Those classes will run you about $125. You can also go to Barney's and "rent" a gun just to see if you like it. They don't have all models but it's a lot of fun. Hope this helps
